Sarah Tully from Education Week showcased the LEARN Parent Opportunity Network in a recent blog post, Nebraska Parent Group Pushing for Charter Law, Choice in Local Schools, highlighting the network's origins and the opposition that the school choice movement has faced in past legislative endeavors. A school-choice bill that would pave the way for charter schools in Nebraska still causes worry for some board members and teachers' unions, Tully explains.
However, she mentions the publicized support of Governor Pete Ricketts, who signed a proclamation during January's school choice week to raise awareness on the issue--awareness that may lead to a different outcome this year.
